Paul and his interpreter: a critical history, c.1-2
The famed Albert Schweitzer examines the scholarship carried out in the 18th and 19th centuries on Paul's letters, and focuses particularly on the deep differences between the Pauline doctrinal analysis of Jesus' life and teachings, and those of the original followers of Jesus. While he examines a number of issues raised by the Pauline letters, the most startling aspect of this book is his conclusion that Paul's teachings as expressed in the Epistles, are a product of Paul's vision on the road to Damascus and are thus Christianity as we know it today is essentially of Paul's making, rather being derived from than Jesus' teachings.
