Of the making of books commenting on biblical books there would seem to be no end. Quite so! Yet the 'end' of the present work, its most important raison d'etre, is to help promote the knowledge of God, the good and the gospel via a recovery of the practice of theological interpretation. The ultimate justification for yet another book about the Bible is its utility in helping to promote the knowledge of what God has done in Israel and in Jesus Christ for the good of the world. The principal thrust of theological interpreter's attention to the subject matter of Scripture - God, the acts of God in history, the gospel - rather than to a particular theological tradition or, for that matter, to some other topic..
