In our generation, the Gospel of Mark is undergoing new evaluation at the hands of many a biblical scholar. For example, the intimate connection once seen between Mark and Paul is being challenged, partly because that connection was essential to a school of thought which emerged in the 19th, was dominant at the beginning of the 20th century, and whose method is presently being subjected to intense criticism.
