The justification for this book, insofar as it needs one, is that non Jews have been interested in Jews for several thousands of years. The ancient world saw the Jews as separate and unique, and the sense of separateness and uniqueness, whether or not based on any reality, has been characteristic of the Gentile view of the Jew throughout history.
