From Jesus to Paul
The latter book is a valuable treatise on the philosophical background of the first century AD/CE that among others like Philo of Alexandria, influenced Saul of Tarsus, later known as Paul. The early first century in the near middle east was a time of foment, of conflicting world views, of frequently brutal Roman occupation of much of the territory, and of what we know as "Hellenism"-- the Greek worldview which had arrived three and a half centuries earlier with the conquest of the entire region by Alexander the Great, and which the Romans picked up and added to, making the Greco-Roman period one whose influence is being felt even today.
