This book contains primary source material for Gnostic writings along with introductions by the author that put things into historical context. The study of primary source Gnostic writing is invaluable for understanding Christian origins and how the church's proclamation differed from rival interpretations of the message of Jesus. Recently, I presented some of this material to a class in my church and those attending agreed that it helped sharpen our understanding of Christianity as well as understand the historic context and milieu in which it began to rapidly grow following the death of the original disciples.
