This book is a joy to read as it provides rich devotional material that makes me love Jesus more. Haynes was a marvelous pastor, a sound exegete, an Edwardian theologian, and an African American who deserves more historical attention. Anyabwile is well-equipped to write on Haynes, as he is a pastor himself and has written a book on African-American history and theology. Anyabwile presents a collection of Haynes's writings based on the theme of living for heaven and living with heavenly-mindedness. Almost every page in my copy has underlining of thought-provoking words from Haynes. My favorite: "The pious [godly] preacher will commend the Savior from the personal fund of his own experience. Being smitten with the love of Christ himself..
