Text
The two tasks of the Christian scholar: redeeming the soul..
The book is written to Christian scholars who teach in secular universities. It is also quite useful for Christian students in the same culture. The book starts with and centers on Charles Malik's 1980 speech at Wheaton College, "The Two Tasks." These tasks are to redeem the mind and redeem the soul. Malik challenges Christians to be scholars and scholars to be Christians. The book gives several examples of problems that Christians have faced in a culture that is, at times, very antagonistic to their beliefs. One example is the bias experienced by Guillermo Gonzalez, the astrophysicist who co-authored The Privileged Planet, a proposal of the Intelligent Design Theory. But the book also cites faults Christians have that widen the gap between the academic culture and the Christian culture..
