Melanchthon on Christian doctrine Loci Communes 1555
Being Orthodox, I was especially interested to read his thoughts on those areas where he argues the Roman Catholic Church went wrong. One will read about enforced clerical celibacy, works-righteousness, monasticism, invocation of the dead and saints, abuses of the liturgy (e.g., as a sacrifice for the dead), purgatory, indulgences, works of supereorogation, Roman views on original sin, fasting and foods, doubts about grace, issues with the sacraments (primarily the eucharist, confirmation, unction, confession, and ordination), and the papacy. All relevant to both ecumenism and Lutheranism today!
