Religion and sexism: images of woman in the Jewish..
The Preface to this 1974 collection states, "Much of the current literature in the women's movement has been written by women who are alienated from religion and who, although perhaps occasionally indicating a recognition of the role of the Church in this history of repression, have little historical or doctrinal information about this process. This leaves a serious gap in the understanding of the dilemma of women's liberation, for religion ... is undoubtedly the single most important shaper and enforcer of the role of women in culture and society."
Contributors to the volume include Judith Plaskow (author of books such as Standing Again at Sinai: Judaism from a Feminist Perspective, and The Coming of Lilith: Essays on Feminism, Judaism, and Sexual Ethics, 1972-2003).
