God worker: journeys into the mind..
Robert Banks, in his book God the Worker, presents a set of Biblical images that reveal the character of God through the lens of human occupation and creativity. Although these images are less commonly used today, Banks shows that they are just as important to helping us relate to God as more traditional images such as liberator, redeemer, lover, and friend. For example, in the discussion of God as Tentmaker and Camper, God is revealed as creator, restorer, and stretcher of life. We see His care for detail and quality, his command for us to imitate, and as his creations, earth's temporariness and our design for mobility to be constantly moving toward His goals. By revealing the character of God through this colorful set of imagery, Banks demonstrates how God becomes an increasingly tangible part of human experience, no matter where we are in time.
