The facts about Luther
Quite the political player, Luther! The widespread political maneuverings which undergirded the movement he spearheaded explain the rapid spread of his rebellion ("reformation" is a misnomer) as no religious modifications could. His personal morals and behaviors descended to an ugliness below any benchmark of decency. His alleged translation of the Bible was plagiarized and, even at that, he deleted several books of Scripture that did not square with his teachings. Later in his career, this unscriptural leader wanted to delete more, but his more religiously sincere followers blocked it. One wonders if Luther's strong antipathy to Jews may have lent underlying acceptability in later times as Lutheran Germany undertook the Third Reich. The unwholesomeness and perfidy of a man lionized by so many for so long is shocking.
