The song of ascents (Psalms 120-134): their place in Israelite.., v.120
This work is the first book-length exegetical treatment of the collection "Songs of Ascents". The author proposes that the Songs consist of two redactional layers, a nucleus that comes from a north-Israelite, agrarian provenance, and a Jerusalemite redactional layer that deliberately gives the "nuclear" songs a new purpose, namely to persuade northern Israelites of the Persian period to make pilgrimage to the Jerusalem temple.
