Baptized into wilderness: a Christian prespective on John Muir
Austin shares John Muir's personal adventures and reflections as America's first advocate of wilderness protection. Muir ( 1838-1914) launched a successful campaign for government protection of natural resources in America, founded Yosemite National Park and The Sierra Club. His writings inspired the American environmental movement.
Austin's Baptized Wilderness explores Muir's sense of religious expression in his commitment to the world of nature- a commitment which Austin challenges us to follow. He proposes an environmental theology that incorporates nature into Christian experience and relates Christian faith to environmental concerns.
